FACEBOOK PAGE TIMELINE: What You Need To Know
In my thirty odd years of life I have found that a good chunk of the population does not like change. There are areas of change that stink and others are hidden blessings which we don’t see right away. In my mind, change in regard to the new Facebook Timeline for Pages is a good thing. You have the option of changing your Facebook Page to Timeline now or keeping it the way that it is. BUT as of March 31st everyone will move to the new Timeline format. So that gives you a bit of time to get everything in order.
Here are seven of the biggest changes that you need to be aware of:
1.) NO MORE LANDING PAGES: If you had a default landing page (with a video or an incentive) they are going away.
2.) COVER PHOTO: Instead of a landing page, you will have access to a much larger area of real estate for an image. Facebook calls this your Cover Photo. This image can be up to 850 pixels by 315 pixels. Your avatar will be 125 pixels by 125 pixels.
BUT according to AllFacebook.com your cover image CAN NOT have the following:
--Price or purchase information, such as “40 percent off” or “Download it at ourwebsite.”
--Contact information, such as web address, email, mailing address or otherinformation intended for your Page’s About section.
--References to user interface elements, such as Like or Share, or any otherFacebook site features.
--Calls to action, such as “Get it now” or “Tell your friends”
3.) MESSAGING: You can now be contacted privately using messages, which is a big improvement from the old Pages format. Messages can be viewed on the top righthand side of the page in the administrative section.
4.) PINNING: You can now “feature” certain posts by pinning them on your wall. You can make posts wider by hovering over the post, video or image on your wall to make it bigger. A pencil icon will also appear for you to make a video, image or post appear at the top of your page to highlight it. This will be GREAT for featuring a new video, book, or album you want to promote, new tour dates, and more!
5.) ADMIN PANEL: If you haven’t been paying attention to the insights of your page (like the demographics, location, etc.) you are missing out on a HUGE marketing opportunity. I’ll get into more detail regarding your insights in another blog, but now your administration panel, including your insights, is posted right at the top of your page. Obviously this will not be visible to the public, but it gives you important information right off the bat.
6.) YOU CAN NOW CHANGE YOUR FACEBOOK PAGE NAME!!: If you were stuck with a misspelled Page name or something wasn’t correct you can now change it. Thank you!!
7.) THE ‘BUILD YOUR AUDIENCE’ TAB: The ‘invite friends’ option is still available but now you are able to send invites from your email contacts. This is just another reason why it’s good to grow your email lists :)
Don’t let this overwhelm you. Like all changes it just takes some time to adjust. If you’ve been using your personal profile in Timeline you’ll see that it’s a great resource and something you will get used to. Just get creative!
What do you think of the changes?
