How to Create Eye-Catching Instagram Stories Using Animated Images

If you have read my previous posts on how to easily design images and create animated visuals using Adobe Spark, you know what a valuable tool it is.

A step-by-step guide to help authors create animated images and videos for Instagram Stories - all for free!

I’ve gotten quite a few questions regarding how we make animated images for our Instagram Story feed, so I thought I would share this quick Adobe Spark tip with you.

If you’re thinking, “I’m not technical - I can’t do this.” Ohhhh yes you can!

Adobe Spark can be used on your desktop or on your iPhone. In my tutorial on how to create images, it shows you how to use it on the desktop,  but the information also applies to the app. It's incredibly easy to use.

Right now the Adobe Spark app is only available on iOS but they are working on an Android app, so stay tuned!

To make animated images and videos, you'll need to do it on your smartphone or tablet.

Here’s what you do:

First, you want to download the Adobe Spark Post app. Make sure you download the POST app (and not the Video app) for this example.

When you create your image, you can resize it to fit any social media image you need. It has all of the correct dimensions and automatically reformats it to fit. It's amazing!

For this example, select Instagram Story.

Next, select the “Effects” option on the bottom righthand side.

You’ll be able to select filters or animation. Select “animation” and Adobe Spark will give you options for animating the text or the photo. You can select each option to see what it does.

Once you pick your animation, select "done" and it will be saved. You can make any adjustments to your image or text at any time.

When you're finished simply select "Share" on the top righthand side of your screen.

When you select "share" the option to share your image, select to save it as a video.

Then select "Save Video" which will put your video in your Photo app.

Now that your video is created and saved, go to Instagram and select the camera icon.

Then select the small image icon at the bottom lefthand side.

Then the images and videos that you created over the last 24 hours will show up. Select your video and then select "Your Story" at the bottom lefthand side of your screen to make it live.

And that's it! You'll have an animated video to share with your readers on Instagram Stories. It's a great way to add some variety to your Stories and draw attention to your content.'s FREE!!

We'd love to see how you're using Adobe Spark! Be sure to tag us in your posts or share a link to your images in the comments below.
