Key ingredient: thinking ahead

Everyone has a lot on their plate. Work, family, friends, and everything in between fills up every nook and cranny of our schedules making us feel like we are spread too thin. When I meet with clients to talk about their social media or digital marketing campaigns , many times I see the desperation in their eyes saying, “Not one more thing to add to my schedule and to-do list!! HEAVEN HELP ME!!”

The thing is, if you are going to pursue a career in the creative field -- music, art, writing, etc. -- as I’ve said before, what differentiates what you’re doing between a hobby and a career is how much time and effort you put into marketing yourself and your craft. Yep, it’s going to take some time, BUT it doesn’t have to take up your entire day. It just takes some planning & thinking ahead.

What has helped me and my clients significantly is creating a calendar & schedule for blog posts and social media updates. By taking an hour to plan out the next two months of blog post ideas, coming up with a list of questions for my Facebook & Twitter fans, some quotes that I love, articles that are helpful, etc., helps take some pressure off of coming up with something on the fly. I have a plan in place which takes the edge off.

By thinking ahead & doing a little planning on the front end it will help you out in the long run. It will be that motivation for you to stick with it, be consistent, and not give up.
