What You Say + How You Say It = Distinction

If you approach your work, career, ideas, and gifts with the mindset of, "This has all been done before. Others are already doing this or talking about it, so why even bother?" it's time we have a little heart to heart. If you were to Google any topic, niche, music type, or area of specialty, chances are there is a blog about it, a musician who is doing something similar, an author who is already covering that subject, and so on. They might be doing it better than you. They might be profiting from it. They might even be considered "the best" in the world at it. The question is, do you take that there is no room for what you have to say OR do you take it as a way to challenge yourself and create even better work?

I can say with absolute certainty that there is no one out there exactly like you. And what do you hold? A unique quality that God weaved within that makes you distinct and special. And that distinction gives you a unique voice. How you present ideas, craft words, design melodies, and share your unique view to the world sets you apart. Therefore, you would be holding back something of great value that a great percentage of the 6 billion people on earth could greatly benefit from.

Are you reinventing the wheel? Nope. Are you presenting the wheel in a different and unique way? Yes! Here are four points to etch into your mind to fight against those doubtful voices in your head:

1) BE YOURSELF: There is no use trying to be someone other than yourself. Why deprive the world of that? That is what makes you, your work, and what you have to say stand out. Be who you are and be proud of that!

2) CREATE GREAT QUALITY: I can't say it enough…quality stands out! If you are looking for a way to stand out from the noisy crowd within your niche, focus on excellence. High quality work will take you a long way. Don't skimp and don't take the easy way. Focus, work hard, and present your best.

3) DON'T BE AFRAID TO PUT YOURSELF OUT THERE: The fear of rejection is one of the greatest reasons artists, writers, musicians, and even business people don't share their ideas. Actually, we hide behind it. Many of us would rather hide behind the "comfort" of not even putting our ideas, our words, and our music into the world because we are afraid of being rejected. We are our absolute worst critics. We will pick things apart, jump to conclusions, and chuck it out before we even give it a try. Don't fall into that mindset.

4) LEARN FROM OTHERS: Through my years of conversations with musicians, authors, and small business owners, I find that those who are best at what they do are constant students and learners. They are devouring books, blogs, conversations, and situations to draw not only inspiration from them but also to be educated by them. They don't think that they know it all…they are constantly pressing themselves forward rather than staying idle in their own thoughts. Educate yourself within your niche. Stay in tune with what is going on.

Remember, you have a unique voice! No matter how full the online world is with various ideas, songs, words, and thoughts, we have never heard the way you present your idea, which is completely new. Grab the bull by the horns and go for it my friend!
